Photo Shoots

Photo Shoots are a great way to meet fellow NCPS members and enjoy photography in the field at a wide variety of picturesque locations. If you have images from a Shoot you'd like to share on our website, please read this article for submission guidelines. All images should be sized with no dimension larger than 1024 pixels. The website automatically scales photos for you. If you would like to make a suggestion about places to have Photo Shoots, or comment on a past photo shoot, please send an email to NCPS Photoshoots

Photo Shoot - San Diego Skyline What better way to beat the August heat than to take a walk along the San Diego harbor front. Our goal for the evening will be to catch the full moon rising over the San Diego city skyline. But first we’ll meet at Liberty Station to explore the architecture of the old Navy training center buildings and surrounding parks. After a couple hours we’ll relocate to Harbor Island in time to watch the 7:07 moonrise. Those that are interested in carpooling should meet at the Park-n-Ride just west of the I-5 & 78 intersection at 3:00. Easiest place to meet at Liberty Station is to enter parking via Womble Rd and meet outside of Starbucks. But the place is huge and parking unpredictable so just call me if you can’t find us. On Harbor Island we will be at the mercy of the available parking. Bring a tripod and both a wide angle and a telephoto lens. For any questions contact Dan Nougier at photoshoots@nc-photo.org or cell 619-884-1359.

Photo Shoot Fallbrook Vintage Car Show Come photograph what is possibly the largest vintage car show in the San Diego area. Wear your walking shows. This show has over 400 cars (1992 and older) displayed on the grounds of the Pala Mesa Resort. Basically you will get to see just about any car you can think of, from horseless carriages to classic roadsters to muscle cars. The featured cars for this year will be DeLoreans. Parking and Admission are free. Show opens at 9:30. I suggest we try to meet up at the car registration booth at 10:00.

WEEKDAY BUTTERFLY PHOTO SHOOT Have you seen all the colorful butterflies at the Safari Park yet? This year the Butterfly Jungle at the Safari Park runs until April 23. The opportunity to walk among thousands of butterflies is a very popular event. We are going early on a Monday to at least ensure we can get in the door. For more info on the park in general go to their web site: http://www.sdzsafaripark.org/. Entrance to the Park is $52 plus parking, which is another $15. To reduce parking costs we will meet at 8:30 at the Park N Ride at the southwest corner of Highway 78 and Broadway in Escondido and car pool from there. We will regroup in front of the park entrance at 9:00. As an extra incentive to brave the Monday morning traffic, I am offering free passes for the first 2 members to email me that they are going. For any questions contact Dan Nougier at photoshoots@nc-photo.org or cell 619-884-1359.

Joshua Tree Photo Shoot Joshua Tree’s nearly 800,000 acres were set aside to protect the unique assembly of natural resources brought together by the junction of three of California’s ecosystems: the Colorado Desert; the Mojave Desert; and the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Our shoot will be focused on the Mojave Desert and the Joshua trees. There will also be a private tour of the Keys Ranch in the morning. This abandon homestead within the park includes buildings, old cars & trucks, mining equipment, and many other fascinating items to photograph. The plan is to rendezvous at 5:00AM in the Oasis Visitor Center parking lot (sunrise is at 6:00.) I also plan to be at the Park all day Friday for anyone who wishes to extend this into a 2 day shoot. Admission is $20.00 per vehicle for the week, unless you already have a Senior or Annual Nation Parks Pass. For more info on the park check out their web site at https://www.nps.gov/jotr/index.htm. IMPORTANT NOTE: This shoot is limited to 12 participants and is already full. If you wish to be put on the waiting list, or for any questions, contact Dan Nougier at photoshoots@nc-photo.org

Photo Shoot - UCSD & the Stuart Collection Since everyone has likely been shooting nothing but wildflowers during the past 2 or 3 months, for May we are going to shift over to architecture and art. We will hike around the UCSD La Jolla campus in search of the Stuart Collection, a unique collection of site-specific works by 18 leading artists. http://stuartcollection.ucsd.edu/index.html I suggest parking in the Gilman Parking Structure. Parking is free on weekends. We will meet just outside the parking garage at the corner of Gilman Dr and Russell Ln at 9:00. At the end of the morning, if anyone is interested, we can also check out the Torrey Pines Gliderport. The gliderport is only about a quarter mile from the campus. For any questions contact Dan Nougier at photoshoots@nc-photo.org or cell 619-884-1359.
