PHOTOSHOOT   Two Day Techatticup Mine

Where: Nelson, Nev

Date:     Wednesday, October 7, 2015
Time:     6:00am to 6:00pm
Leader:  Dan Nougier

Fellow NCPS member Tom Scott is leading a photo shoot to the Techatticup Mine and Nelson ghost town on October 7th and 8th. A boom town in the mid to late 1800s, the mine was later abandoned leaving behind miles of tunnels and countless deteriorating buildings. Check out Tom’s blog at http://tomoscott.com/journal/2015/7/5/photo-trip-to-nelson-nevada to learn more. It really looks like a neat place to photograph. Currently the private owners of the mine offer historic tours through portions of the mines walking visitors up to 500 feet into the hills. If we can get 4 members or more to go, the cost for 8 hours of photographing plus the mine tour would be reduced from $92 to $52 each. Plus, Tom has offered to take up to 3 members in his car.

The current itinerary is to leave around 6am, so we'd get there just before noon. The drive is about 5 1/2 hours each way. There's a motel in Searchlight -- nothing fancy, but it has AC. Cost is about $35 a night. We'd stop in Searchlight just to confirm the reservation, and then proceed to Techatticup. We'd be free to wander around until around 2pm, when the mine tour starts. After that, we can roam around for 3 more hours or so. The next morning, we can get up bright and early and get there around 8 am. As long as we're very quiet, it should be ok. We could get in around 4 more hours of photography, and then head home.
